This is a browser design limitation, unrelated to extensions.

Why Can't It Auto-Focus?

Chrome has implemented focus control restrictions on extensions for security reasons:

  • When side panel opens, focus remains on the current webpage
  • Extensions cannot programmatically obtain focus
  • This is to prevent malicious extensions from disrupting user input

How to Resolve?

Since this is a browser-level limitation, there's currently no technical workaround.

After opening the sidebar, you need to:

Manually click the search box to start typing
