Version 1.3
CaptionGo v1.3.0 adds a Caption Library that saves and exports your AI captions, a floating caption window, AI captions for podcasts and audio pages, Auto Select for speech engines, and 12 caption themes for YouTube, Spotify, and any video.
CaptionGo v1.3 Release Notes
CaptionGo v1.3 turns AI captions into something you can keep, search, and reuse. Every video you caption with AI Captions is now saved to the new Caption Library, where you can search, star, merge, and export captions as TXT, Markdown, SRT, or VTT, with optional encrypted cloud sync across your devices. A draggable floating caption window keeps a live, scrolling transcript beside any video, and AI captions now work on podcasts, music sites, and other audio-only pages — no video needed. Auto Select switches to another speech engine whenever one is blocked or unreachable, and 12 new caption themes keep subtitles easy to read on any screen. Works on YouTube, Spotify, Twitch, Bilibili, online courses, and any website.

v1.3.0
2026-10-26Added
- Caption Library (PRO): AI captions are now saved automatically to the new Caption Library, which you can open from the popup, Settings, or the floating window. Search by title or caption text, filter by date, language, or website, star favorites, rename, merge duplicates, and delete in bulk with undo. Export to TXT, Markdown, SRT, or VTT as bilingual, original, or translation. Open any saved caption to read along and jump back to the original video. Captions from incognito windows are never saved, and you can choose how long they are kept in Settings
- Caption Library Sync & Reuse: Turn on "Sync caption library" (off by default) to keep your library in sync across devices, encrypted with your account and with room for up to 2,000 videos. You can also let CaptionGo reuse saved captions when you watch the same video again (optional, in Settings), so you only spend AI caption minutes on the missing parts. If your PRO plan ends, saved captions stay available to view, edit, export, and delete
- Floating Caption Window (PRO): Show AI Captions in a draggable, resizable window that scrolls along with the video instead of sitting on top of it. Click any timestamp to jump to that moment, copy a line, collapse the window, or customize the theme, opacity, and text size. It remembers its position and size, and Alt+Shift+F toggles it
- AI Captions for Podcasts & Audio Pages: Generate AI captions on pages without video — podcasts, audio sites, and music sites — by clicking the caption button in the popup. Captions follow playback and appear in the floating window, even when a page hides its video off-screen, as Spotify does. When the next episode starts, CaptionGo recognizes it again and saves it separately
- Auto Select for AI Captions: Built-in AI Captions can choose the speech engine for you. If the engine in use is blocked, rate-limited, or unreachable, CaptionGo switches to the next available one and lets you know, so captions don't stop mid-video. Set your preferred engine order in Settings. Existing built-in users are upgraded automatically; if you use your own API key, nothing changes
- 12 Caption Themes & My Themes: Choose from six dark and six light themes designed for different viewing situations, such as cinema, night viewing, study, and reading. Themes apply to both on-video captions and the floating window, keep the original and the translation easy to tell apart, and become more solid when your system uses high-contrast mode. Save your own style as "My Themes" (up to 6). Four themes are free; the rest are PRO
- More Caption Styling: Choose an outline style (shadow, outline, emboss, Netflix, or none) for the original and the translation separately, and set a separate font, size, and color for translated text
- Caption Navigation: New buttons and shortcuts to go to the previous sentence, replay the current one, jump to the next, pause after every sentence, or loop a single sentence — ideal for language learning. Turn it on in Settings
- Open & Close Shortcuts: AI Captions, bilingual subtitles, and the floating window now have separate "turn on" and "turn off" commands in addition to "toggle". Assign them in your browser's extension shortcut settings
- Auto-Stop When Silent: AI Captions stop on their own after a long silence (10 minutes by default; choose 5, 10, 20 minutes, or off), so a forgotten tab doesn't keep running
- Better Subtitles for Mixed-Language Videos: A new "Detect and lock a single language" option (on by default). Turn it off for videos that switch languages, such as English and Spanish, and each language is recognized as it is spoken. Deepgram automatically uses its multilingual recognition
- Site Translations First: When a website already offers subtitles in your chosen translation language, CaptionGo uses them directly instead of running machine translation
- Palabra Speech Recognition (Early Access): Palabra joins the AI Captions engines with support for 13 languages. It works best as a backup when other engines are unavailable
Changed
- Soniox Translation One-Way by Default: Soniox bilingual translation now translates into your chosen language by default and is not used when you show the original only. Two-way translation is still available in Settings, and your saved settings are unchanged
- Simpler Cloud Sync: The "local password" mode is gone. Sign in to the same account in each browser and sync just works, with no password to set or enter. Data you encrypted earlier is still readable and migrates automatically when you sync from the original browser
Improved
- Redesigned Popup: One caption button turns bilingual subtitles or AI Captions on and off, and the popup shows the live status of the current tab, including connecting, paused, and error states. Sign-in, trial, rating, and upgrade prompts now appear one at a time
- Tidier In-Video Menu: Caption options are grouped into Recognition and Preferences, the style, site, keyboard, and display panels are redesigned, there is a new "Back to site captions" entry, and your caption settings are remembered next time
- Friendlier Reminders: Trial-ending notices, low AI caption minutes, and used-up AI translation credits now appear as one small CaptionGo card at the bottom right of the page, at most once per period, with direct buttons to buy more or use your own API key. Notices that need no action were removed
- More Natural Soniox Captions: Captions appear sentence by sentence, each one as soon as it is recognized
- More Reliable Deepgram Auto Detection: Mixed-language videos are recognized more reliably, with added support for Arabic and Thai
- Faster First Caption: AI Captions start from the sentence you are watching, so the first caption appears sooner. On live streams, captions are no longer missed when the network is slow at the start
- Faster, Cleaner Translation: Live translation appears sooner, text already in your target language is no longer translated, browser built-in translation no longer shows garbled results, and the language is detected again when you switch to another video or audio on the same page
- Instant Plan Updates: After you sign in, sign out, or your membership changes, site support and AI Caption engines refresh automatically — no browser restart needed
Fixed
- Fixed: AI Captions asking you to click the extension icon on protected videos such as Crunchyroll — it now starts directly from the in-page button, and the CaptionGo button appears in the Crunchyroll player control bar
- Fixed: overly long subtitles on live streams with real-time bilingual translation
- Fixed: AI Captions occasionally switching to live capture when it was not needed
- Fixed: live captions disappearing when the spoken language is confirmed
- Fixed: AI Captions time staying reserved when a session stopped before it connected
- Fixed: the first sync on a new device or after signing in sometimes overwriting existing cloud data with local settings
