Can Chrome's built-in sync actually sync your tabs?
Chrome's native cross-device sync handles bookmarks, history, and passwords. It can show tabs from other devices under "History → Tabs from other devices," but with significant limitations:
- No tab group information: Group names and colors are not synced

Do synced tabs open automatically on other devices?
No, they do not open automatically. This is a core design principle of "Open Windows & Tabs" sync: synced data is saved as snapshots, giving you full control over when and what to restore.
When another device receives synced data, you'll see a notification in VertiTab's side panel message center — for example, "Work Desktop — 35 tabs synced." You then have three options:
- Merge into current window: Add the synced tabs to your current browser window
- Open in new window: Open all synced tabs in a new browser window
- Keep as snapshot: Take no action — the snapshot stays saved in the Snapshots page for later
You can also open the snapshot details and selectively restore individual windows or specific tabs.
How to set up tab cloud sync?
Setting up tab cloud sync takes four steps: sign into your account, name your device, choose a sync mode, and enable the tab sync toggle.
Step 1: Sign into your VertiTab account
Cloud sync requires a VertiTab account. Sign in with Google, Microsoft, GitHub, or other supported providers. Use the same account on all devices you want to sync.
Step 2: Name your device
In the Cloud Sync settings page, give each device a recognizable name so you can identify which device synced data came from. Use names like "Work Desktop" or "Home Laptop."
Step 3: Choose a sync mode
VertiTab offers four sync modes for different scenarios:

Will syncing from multiple devices overwrite each other?
No. Each device's uploaded data is saved as an independent synced snapshot on other devices, labeled with the source device's name.
For example, if you have three devices (Work Desktop, Home Laptop, Tablet), your Work Desktop's data appears on the Home Laptop as a snapshot labeled "Work Desktop," and independently on the Tablet as well. Each device's data remains separate.
When the same device syncs multiple times (e.g., throughout a workday), subsequent syncs update the same snapshot rather than creating new ones. This is achieved through a browser-session-level syncId — multiple syncs within the same browser session update a single snapshot, preventing snapshot accumulation.
What are the most common use cases?
The four most common scenarios for "Open Windows & Tabs" sync are: continuing work at home after leaving the office, using multiple devices for different tasks, recovering data after a system crash, and safely using a temporary device.
Scenario 1: Continue working at home after the office
You've been working all day with dozens of tabs spread across multiple windows. When you leave, VertiTab syncs everything to the cloud in the background. How is synced data secured?
VertiTab cloud sync uses end-to-end encryption. All tab data — URLs, page titles, tab group information — is encrypted locally with a password before leaving your computer. The server stores only encrypted data and cannot read the original content.
For additional security, you can set a custom encryption password in sync settings. All devices must use the same password. What should I do if sync isn't working?
