DualPiP v1.8 Release Notes

This update introduces a full-featured right-click context menu in the Picture-in-Picture window, three caption display modes including an immersive lyrics overlay inspired by Apple Music, long-press speed drag with gear switching, and a 10-band audio equalizer.

• Media Chrome player support: the Picture-in-Picture button appears next to captions or fullscreen in the control bar
• Control-bar buttons on more online video players and embed sites

• More reliable quick button: if the control bar is missing or not ready, DualPiP shows a corner button on the video, then switches back when the control bar appears
• A single video on the page still gets a quick button even when the player looks small on a large screen

• Fixed sites where neither the control-bar button nor the corner button appeared
• Fixed the button jumping around inside some player control bars

• Subtitle navigation buttons: previous, replay, and next — quickly browse through subtitle content (shortcuts A / S / D)
• Subtitle auto-pause: automatically pauses the video at the end of each subtitle line for sentence-by-sentence study (shortcut Q)
• Copy subtitle button: copy the current subtitle text with one click (shortcut Ctrl+C)
• Subtitle drag handle: hover over subtitles to reveal a drag handle for repositioning
• Caption width control: drag a slider in caption style settings to adjust maximum subtitle width (50%–100%)
• 7 new font options: Poppins, Quicksand, Sofia Sans, DM Sans, Montserrat, Open Sans, and Lato
• Thin (100) and Extra Light (200) font weight options — weight menu now shows numeric values
• Uscreen video player support

• Upgraded to variable fonts: font weights transition smoothly from 100 to 900 for a more refined look
• Updated caption color palette with softer, modern tones for improved readability and visual comfort
• Better multi-line bilingual subtitle positioning: subtitles no longer overflow the PiP window bottom or get obscured by controls — multi-line content grows upward

• Crunchyroll subtitle support (Pro): Crunchyroll uses hard-rendered subtitles, so the free page-subtitle mode is not available
• 20+ new player integrations: including Vimeo, BBC iPlayer, Wistia, ArtPlayer, NPlayer, Shaka Player, Bitmovin, Clappr, ARD/ZDF Mediathek, and more
• Caption track type recognition: automatically distinguishes between standard subtitles, CC/SDH closed captions, and ASR auto-generated subtitles

• Phonetic annotations now work across all subtitle modes: list view, lyrics overlay, and ASR live captions

• Phonetic Annotation (Pro): add pronunciation guides above subtitles to aid language learning. Right-click → Captions → Phonetic Annotation to enable per language. Supports Chinese Pinyin, Japanese Furigana & Romaji, Korean Romanization, English IPA (US/UK), and Hindi Transliteration. Japanese dictionary is downloaded on first use and cached persistently

• Searched or imported subtitles are now grouped separately under "My Subtitles" with individual delete support
• Searched or imported subtitles are no longer lost after page refresh
• Significantly reduced redundant YouTube subtitle requests, greatly lowering the chance of 429 errors
• Display Mode options in the caption menu now use a sliding panel submenu for a more compact layout
• Pro badge in the context menu moved to the right side; menu items now show their keyboard shortcuts

• Better bilingual subtitle stability: automatically retries when translation temporarily fails, preventing subtitles from showing only the original language for extended periods
• Faster subtitle recovery after seeking: bilingual subtitles reappear more quickly after scrubbing or skipping
• Smarter subtitle caching: subtitle data is preserved when closing and reopening PiP, reducing redundant loading
• Keyboard shortcut customization is now completely free: all users can freely set and reset shortcuts
• Zone gesture mapping is now completely free: all users can customize double-tap and swipe zone functions
• Simplified gesture settings: removed excessive parameter sliders, keeping core toggles and speed settings
• Clearer language menu labels: "Native Language" renamed to "Translate to", "Learning Language" renamed to "Subtitle Language" for better clarity

• Fixed video crashes on DRM streaming sites (e.g. Apple TV+) when the extension is active
• Fixed subtitles randomly time-shifting
• Fixed bilingual subtitles stopping on some sites (e.g. SVT Play) after long periods without subtitle content
• Fixed AB loop missing membership verification in subtitle list panel

• Live Captions (ASR) is now a PRO-only feature: Due to rising speech recognition service costs, Live Captions now requires a PRO membership. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. PRO members can continue using both the built-in cloud recognition and custom API key modes
• Cross-origin video PiP is now a PRO feature. Free users can still use the browser's standard Picture-in-Picture for cross-origin videos

• Removed subtitle search and download feature (limited results available; use local import for external subtitles)
• Removed "Page Video Shortcuts" feature (focusing on PiP experience, no longer affecting the original web page)
• Removed "Learning Settings" options page (learning features use default settings within PiP)

• Netflix smart subtitle preloading: automatically downloads and caches both native and learning language subtitles simultaneously when watching Netflix, eliminating translation wait times
• New "Learning Language" setting in the translation menu, with clear descriptions for Source Language, Native Language, and Learning Language
• New "Resume Play on Seek" toggle in the right-click menu (Playback), enabled by default — automatically resumes playback after seeking on a paused video

• Prefer human-translated subtitles: when official subtitles in your native language are available, they are used directly instead of calling a translation service

• Fixed Simplified Chinese subtitles occasionally displaying as Traditional Chinese when set as native language
• Fixed the live chat danmaku button incorrectly appearing on regular YouTube videos

• Right-click context menu in PiP window — access all playback controls directly from the video
